Grilled Chicken Shawarma

Grilled spiced chicken served with warm pita, yogurt sauce, lettuce and tomato. So good!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless chicken breasts or thighs

  • 4 cloves garlic, grated

  • 1 lemon, juiced

  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander

  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin

  • 2 teaspoons sumac

  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamon

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 cup greek yogurt

  • 2 cups lettuce, shredded

  • 1 tomato, sliced

  • pitas

Instructions

  1. Heat the grill to high heat.

  2. Mix olive oil, 3 cloves garlic, spices, and half the lemon juice in a small bowl. Coat over the chicken and marinade for 10 minutes (or overnight if you remember!)

  3. Grill the chicken for 7 minutes per side until cooked through. Set aside. Add the pita to the grill for about 2 minutes per side until warmed through.

  4. Mix the yogurt, the remaining lemon juice and 1 clove of garlic.

  5. Slice the chicken and serve with the pita, lettuce, tomato and yogurt.

Takes 25 minutes
